What is OpenRoaming?

Developed by Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) and participating companies, it is a global roaming (interconnection) platform.
Once users configure OpenRoaming, they can use various different SSIDs and Wi-Fi services from different providers automatically and securely.

  1. One Setup, Across Wi-Fi Services Worldwide

By setting up OpenRoaming on any compatible Wi-Fi service, you will also be able to use other Wi-Fi services with different SSIDs and providers.
Until now, Japan Wi-Fi auto-connect was only able to automatically connect and authenticate Wi-Fi spots that our company helped install and build, or connected to.
From version 4.0.1 onwards, in addition to the existing Wi-Fi spots, any OpenRoaming-compatible Wi-Fi spot can be used, regardless of the company or organization that installed it.

  2. Highly secure wireless communication and authentication

OpenRoaming is more secure and uses Passpoint and IEEE802.1x authentication standards for connectivity and authentication.
This improves the safety of radio sections and reduces the risk of eavesdropping, as well as the threat of fake access points disguising SSIDs and attacks on authentication servers.

  3. Simply go to a Wi-Fi spot and automatically connect to Wi-Fi and complete authentication

OpenRoaming will automatically connect you to a Wi-Fi spot, just like your work or home Wi-Fi, as long as you've already registered for an account.

Key differences in OpenRoaming-enabled spots

There is only an increase in the number of spots you can use, but there is no big difference.
However, since OpenRoaming Wi-Fi services can be used interchangeably without connecting carriers, there are some spots that can't be displayed in the app's map or list.
