Free Wi-Fi is already available on Shinkansen trains on all lines. It may or may not be available depending on the train car, so please check the sticker inside the car.

Basic usage of free Wi-Fi

The details vary by train, but the process of connecting to the Wi-Fi and registering for use is the same. First, let's review the basic flow.

① Turn on Wi-Fi from the settings screen and tap the network (SSID) you wish to connect to from the network list selection screen.
Properly check the network name on the sticker inside the vehicle and connect to the correct one. If a password is also listed with it, enter it.

②The method of displaying the user authentication (login) screen differs depending on the operating system.

On iPhone, the user authentication (login) screen appears automatically.

On Android, the user authentication (login) screen will be displayed when a message prompting login is displayed and tapped.

③When the login screen for the free Wi-Fi service appears, check the terms of use, the time and number of times you can use the service, and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the usage procedures. Screens and procedures vary depending on the vehicle and other factors, but in general, you will be asked to enter your e-mail address or SNS account.

It may be difficult to get a connection during busy times or depending on signal conditions. In particular, signal reception may be poor in mountainous areas or in tunnels.

Use Wi-Fi wisely on trains for a comfortable trip!

Free Wi-Fi is a strong ally when traveling for long periods of time, but when using it, be careful not to disturb others by, for example, being aware of the volume of the content you are watching.

Also, depending on the area you are traveling in, such as in mountainous areas, Wi-Fi may be a bit unstable. But this may be a part of what makes the trip worthwhile.
